Markt 67
A decade ago, the proprietors of the branded unit introduced a Berlin timeshare model to Austria, titled »We Share Our Home.« What was once a dilapidated historic farmhouse at Markt 67 has transformed into a communal space in the heart of Weiden am See. Here, individuals with shared interests can acquire a membership entitling them to four to eight weeks per year.
The 70-square-meter house, crafted by architect Claudia Cavallar, clinched the prestigious »Best House in Burgenland« architecture prize in 2015. Nestled in the local landscape, it seamlessly integrates as if it has been a part of the surroundings since time immemorial: fashioned from standard hollow bricks and adorned with gray scratched plaster, crowned by a modest pitched roof. Within, a plywood structure elegantly partitions the space into public and private zones, forming a gallery that houses the bedroom and bathroom above the living area.
Over the past decade, strangers have evolved into friends: two families originating from the longstanding member pool—Julia and Robert Haranza, along with Delia and Markus Wieser—have made the collective decision to advance the concept. They aim to expand and apply the once-experimental yet highly successful sharing model of Market 67 in innovative ways within the neighborhood.
Architect couple Haranza and Claudia Cavallar are currently renovating the adjacent building at Markt 65 and the house across the street at Markt 65A, bringing them up to date with the latest technology. This collaborative project at the marketplace in Weiden am See is a significant effort to counteract village decline and rural migration. The private road linking these three houses, set to be revegetated in the upcoming months, is transforming into a small village oasis just minutes away from Lake Neusiedl. In an era marked by escalating energy and mobility costs, which continually challenge the globalized consumer society, these Burgenland homes stand as a testament to regionalism and innovative utilization. Moreover, amid these changes, we eagerly anticipate attracting new members who share our enthusiasm for this initiative. Hello, friends!
