Gault&Millau Magazine
When Burda Publishing calls and commissions us to create the editorial design for the Gault & Millau brand, our hearts beat faster. Excitement and passion. We love magazines. They’re in our blood. After all, they are one of our specialities, despite many forsaking print. But not us. Never.
Gault & Millau is best known for its restaurant guides. Now for the first time, they are releasing a magazine. We have designed five issues, developing the editorial design from scratch and defining the art direction for the associated imagery.
The high-quality magazine delves into top gastronomy, wine, travel, and lifestyle. However, how do you engage an audience with a high level of knowledge and insight? You take an extra step, seeking surprises and presenting new perspectives. It was crucial to convey expertise, doing so authentically and through innovative shapes and forms.
Collaborating with esteemed photographers like Joachim Baldauf enabled us to consistently introduce fresh visual elements without sacrificing the authenticity applauded by critics. Teaming up with well-known personalities such as actor Christian Berkel, model Eva Padberg, or actress Iris Berben brought a fresh and captivating approach to every topic, no matter how grounded. Stories about asparagus wine, honey, fresh bread, and copper pots were revitalized, providing new perspectives and making subjects like salt and Burgundy approachable with expertise. And to top it off, the wine list curated by the one and only Otto Geisel is the crowning touch.
