Die besten Weine Deutschlands

Editorial Design, Creative Direction, Art Direction, Graphic Design

Germany’s best wines. The title says it all. An homage to German wine and its producers, basically. Now the question was how to bring together the most diverse wineries, winegrowers and different types of wine.

Our design approach: As much as necessary, as little as possible. This notion is already implemented on the cover. Completely in black, with golden finish and all wine types and wineries in a subtly finishing. With the red Gault & Millau logo, we also complete the colors of the German national flag.

The core stories focus on the winegrowers and their environment. Similar to the Gault & Millau magazine, it was important to convey expertise, but to present it authentically and in new, sometimes even atypical forms. The design itself is inspired by the magazine. Shifted titles, grouped style and a playful use of white space give the book an organic high quality.

The core stories focus on winegrowers and their environment. Similar to the Gault & Millau magazine, it was important to convey expertise, but to present it honestly but to present it authentically and in new, sometimes even unusual ways. After all, food is the new fashion. That’s why we trusted Joachim Baldauf shoting the portraits of the winegrowers. It was important to us to create a contemporary representation, far removed from the usual romanticization. And from now on, when drinking wine, we will also stay true to the motto »as much as necessary, as little as possible.« Maybe.
